AGC Plasma Technology Solutions recently completed installation of the first of two magnetron sputtering plants which will be used to produce the reflective silver-based mirrors of the Extremely Large Telescope’s primary mirror system. Located in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, the ELT’s primary mirror consists of 798 individual hexagonal segments.
